Software updates are provided for owners of Ford vehicles that have SYNC 4 or newer. As Ford rolls out newer versions of its SYNC program, those versions will receive updates, too. The updates serve a dual purpose. They take care of any bugs or issues with the current system, and they provide enhancements to existing features or add new features. You have the option to allow automatic updates or select the time for updates to begin. You get notifications for new updates when they are made available.
When you schedule an update, you can select the time. Some updates may prevent you from starting the engine for at least 45 minutes. You may prefer to have these updates installed in the middle of the night to avoid interrupting your schedule. After the update has been installed, you’ll be able to find out the details of what has changed.

How to Schedule An Automatic Update in Your Ford

Automatic Updates are already allowed in SYNC 4 and SYNC 4A. You will still need to turn it on by going to your settings and choosing System Updates. Once you toggle the button to ON, the updates will happen without any more assistance from you. If you don’t want them to happen automatically, you can schedule the time. This process is also found in System Updates. You just choose Schedule Updates and pick your day and time. After you save the selection, the updates will happen at that time until you change it.
