Colorado City is located in Mitchell County, Texas, and began as a ranger camp in 1877. The city of Colorado City has been called “the Mother City of West Texas” as it began to grow into a cattlemen’s center. In 1881, Colorado City acquired a railway station and post office. Located to the east of Lone Wolf Creek, Colorado City is situated along the Colorado River to the west. Colorado City was the center for cattle shipment in the early 1880s as herds were driven to Colorado City and loaded onto trains for shipment to the east.
